Conference
A meeting of 33rd Malaysian Urological Conference 2024 was held at Setia SPICE Convention Center in Penang, Malaysia on 21-23 November 2024.
Attendees are doctor, nurse and company employee from around the world. Participants from Thailand included me from Rajavithi hospital and the other resident from KCMH.
The concept of this year conference is ‘Integrating AI & Precision Surgery’ which promote using and improving knowledge and technology into Urology field.
Itinerary
There are two-day conferences with one day ‘Pre-Congress’ Live surgery before the main conference.
Pre-Congress Live surgery demonstrated seven operations with separated monitor that can reach by individual headphone set.
Main conference with the concept of “Integrating AI & Precision surgery” showed many interesting new concept and production of Urologic operation and instruments from many speakers.
Task Assignment
As I am the delegate from Thailand. I have been assigned to present the topic “Work-Life balance, Does it exist?” To share the experience to other trainees in the FAUA Trainee session.
This session is a breakout session set up in aiming to share the experiences between the residents and fellows all around from the South East Asia countries to update and share the challenges together.
I had 15 minutes with 15 slides to talk about this topic, and it went well with interested by the moderator and other trainees.
World famous Urologist
This event brings together many of well-known subspecialty professors around the world. I have listened to many speakers, and it’s inspired me to follow their strategies and ideas.
Dr.Ranjith Ramasamy, Dr.Simon Choong, and Dr.Murigesan Manoharan are the examples of professional urologists I know from these conferences.
There were some small group workshops and masterclass session to hand on instrument and procedure under guidance by professors.
Venue and Organization
It was well organized, safe, spacious and convenient to join this conference since the venue is Setia SPICE convention centre, which is next to Amari hospital where mostly of the attendant stay.
The disadvantage point may be a difficult of the taste of the Halal food at the break and lunch symposium that some might not appreciate much.
The Journey in Penang, Malaysia
The Journey in Penang, Malaysia
Penang is the place where we can see many of Race and Religion from the people. Some are Muslims, Chinese, and others. These brought to the variation and diversity of culture.
It is easy to take a short trip and hopping cafe and grab local food e.g. Char kuay teaow. Laksa, Hokkien mee, and Chendol. The cost of living is not expensive as much as in Thailand.
I have traveled to nearly all of the famous attractions in Penang, like Georgetown (old town), Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si temple, Hawker Street and many others. Although Georgetown (old town) does not close enough to the conference center, we can get on the bus or Grab car to go downtown quickly.
Supporter and Sponsorship
Thailand’s committee from previous interview to give chance to be a delegate of Thai residents and TUA for sponsorship.
Thai Urological Association under the Royal Patronage [TUA] was the main sponsorship for the travel cost which is mainly the cost of the flight.
The hotel accommodations were supported by MUA.
